Moyhu is a small riverside town 2 ½ hours North East of Melbourne in the picturesque King Valley wine region. The factory closed in the mid 1960’s with the centralization of dairy manufacturing and was used as a freight depot, fruit packing shed and lastly a winery. King Valley Dairy is sympathetically restored to its Dairy manufacturing roots retaining many of the original features.
King Valley Dairy property is 6.5 acres on the banks of the King River, visitors to the factory are welcome to wander the heritage orchard and vegetable gardens. Visit the animals, we have pigs, chickens, cows and bees on the property. Fresh fruit and vegetables are grown to provide produce for deli platters, fresh food sales and preserves.
Moyhu has a rich history of Dairy production with 2 butter factories located in town, both are now gone, although remnants remain. The site of the King Valley Dairy, originally a casein production factory built in the early 1940’s is one of the last of the many previously working dairy factories in the King Valley, close by is Milawa Cheese Factory.
The outdoor dining area will provide a relaxing spot for a deli style lunch, morning and afternoon tea with gorgeous views across the paddock to the hills.
Located within the factory is a produce store with house made preserves, buttermilk fudge, ice cream and butter tasting and sales. Attached to the factory is a purpose built viewing room with historic dairy artefacts and information on dairy production.
